Our guests

Derrick May
Derrick May - Of the Belleville Three, the cadre of early Detroit producers who tested the limits of spirit within electronic dance music and changed the integrity of the form forever, Derrick May's reputation as an originator remained intact despite more than a decade of recording inactivity. While Juan Atkins is rightly looked at as the godfather of techno, with a recording career beginning in the electro scene of the early '80s and encompassing some of the most inspired tracks in the history of dance music; and Kevin Saunderson is the Detroit producer with the biggest mainstream success through his work with vocalist Paris Grey as Inner City, May's position as an auteur eroded slightly during the 1990s due to a largely inexplicable lack of activity. As far as influence counts as part of the equation, however, May recorded the techno tracks which top dance producers point to as the most original and influential. The classic Derrick May sound is a clever balance between streamlined percussion-heavy cascades of sound with string samples and a warmth gained from time spent in Chicago, enraptured by the grooves of essential DJs like Ron Hardy and Frankie Knuckles. May's Transmat Records label was the home of his best material, cuts like "Nude Photo," "Strings of Life," "Kaos" and "It Is What It Is," most produced from 1987 to 1989 as Rhythim Is Rhythim. And though his release schedule all but halted during the 1990s, he continued DJing around the world and honed Transmat into one of the most respected techno labels in the world.
Kenny Larkin
Kenny Larkin - To most electronic music aficionados, Detroit native Kenny Larkin is a man who needs no introduction. His impressive 20-year history of creating arguably some of the most timeless, soulful techno ever created, is unquestionable. But, to the newer generation of club-goers, who aren’t aware of his contributions, 2012 serves as the year to re-establish his position as one of the most valuable forces in dance music today. Delightful, pure Detroit-style techno. Melodic, emotive and, like so much great U.S. techno, almost jazz-like in places. Larkin is a man with his finger on the fast forward button of music’s future. Street Sound magazine voted his Azimuth as one of the top 50 Techno CD’s of all time. Larkin’s sound continues to stand the test of time. His unique, musical approach to dance music transcends expectations in balance with meeting his own ambitions and meanwhile pleasing “Detroit-Days” devoted followers all the world over. As his popularity grows, he will no doubt convert new fans to believers and show them that music…REAL music, and Techno can in fact coexist in the same fuzzy place in the heart.

Cosmin TRG
Cosmin TRG - A singular voice, an idiosyncratic approach of Techno and a firm command of the dancefloor have turned Cosmin TRG into one of dance music's ubiquitous figures. Throughout a career spanning almost a decade, Berlin-based Romanian producer and DJ Cosmin Nicolae has released music with Hessle Audio, Hemlock, Running Back, Rush Hour, 50Weapons, buidling a diverse and iconoclastic catalog in the process.
Taking cues from 90s era leftfield electronics, warehouse techno, the pioneers of early lab recordings and minimal film scores, Cosmin TRG has created his own brand of modern, textural sonics in a contemporary context. His flair for abstract, low-end drum section methodology and a natural propensity for sculpting arresting soundscapes out of contrasting aural signifiers have earned him a solid reputation with audiences, peers and critics worldwide.
Creating complex aural environments and relaying states of mind in club context has been a tenet in Cosmin TRG's immersive DJ sets, done so with expertise and gravitas for the world's leading dacenfloors, from Fabric to Berghain, to Trouw, Sonar, Toronto to Tokyo, London to Melbourne. His relentlessly hypnotic and seductive approach of the House and Techno canon has landed him regular slots on platforms like Boiler Room and podcasts for Resident Advisor, XLR8R, Fact Mag or CLR among others.
Following a flurry of singles and 2 full-lenghth albums (Simulat – 2011, Gordian – 2013), Cosmin TRG has started his own platform for artistic output in the shape of Fizic, an auteur-driven record label aiming at creating unique, high-quality audio-visual products of his own work. As its creator puts it, “Releasing on my own imprint is a rite of passage that I've always procrastinated, and so I finally resolved to channel all my efforts into something I could call my own. It gives me a chance to be very direct and personal. I also wanted to expose myself a little more, push my boundaries a bit.”
Though impossible to pin down, there’s a distinguished and distinguishable sonic personality about all to that which bares Cosmin’s name, and it’s that which makes him the essential electronic talent that he is.
Janina - Enthusiastic, soulful and obstinate would probably best describe Janina, a Berlin born & based DJ, and above all a pillar of the German electronic underground scene for more than twelve years.
After dropping out school and having bought her first turntables in her early years, Janina built a deep knowledge of electronic music and developed a keen interest in vinyls, while working at the Berlin renowned DNS Record Store. Lively and full of curiosity, it was obvious to Janina that she will dedicate her time and energy to music when she discovered the BeatStreet parties and got her first Perlon Records as presents.
She has first been acknowledged for her active residency at the needs-no-introduction Club der Visionäre. She developed over the time a impressive sharp ear, peerless technical skills, an asserted signature, despite continuously evolving music tastes.
First gig at Club der Visionäre at the age of 18, where she is since then a resident, Janina performed at the most legendary nightclubs of european capitals, with ears and eyes wide open to the crowd. She now plays regular sets for Klubnacht parties @ Panorama Bar, and got well-known for her endless sets at Ibiza Underground, Ushuaia, Macarena Club, Rex Club, Watergate, Arena Club, Monasterio and Katapult Parisian parties. While sharing the decks with Marcel Dettmann, Ben Klock, Robert Hood, Fumiya Tanaka, Sonja Moonear, Margaret Dygas, Thomas Melchior, Cassy, Luciano, Carl Craig and other artists around the world, she is now playing twice a month as a resident of Monasterio Club in Moscow, one of the capital’s major nightclub.
Having drawn unlimited inspiration from Underground Resistance pioneers, to legend Robert Hood, Cari Lekebush or Tresor’s techno scene, she likes to drive up the ideas further. Rumour had it that there might be a record label behind Janina’s darkened alter ego.
